THE ROOMS OF CAFFE' FLORIAN

Oriental Room

Rectangle 639

The Oriental Room was adorned with paintings by Giacomo Casa in the second half of the 19th century. Already quite famous painter in Venice (he also painted the original decoration of the Apollonian Rooms of La Fenice opera house and the frescoes of the Teatro Verdi in Padua), he was considered an “imaginative innovator who sketched and executed his canvas without coming back with a second touch”. And he certainly delighted his contemporaries with his charming silhouettes of partially unveiled exotic women.

Like the Chinese Room, the Oriental Room is the perfect place to enjoy an unforgettable experience. There is a special atmosphere, a different kind of air in both Rooms, maybe because they are connected and alike; the mirrors on the walls of the tiny passages between the two Rooms create the effect of a labyrinth, and your image is reflected back at you countless times, as you go from China to Orient.
