Considered the most precious among the black teas and nicknamed the “champagne of teas”, the Darjeeling is a black tea blend coming from the Darjeeling region in India, in the Bengala district, at the foot of the Himalayas mountains. A beautiful area full of waterways with wild orchids, known throughout the world for both its tea plantations located between 800 and 1900 meters of altitude and the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
According to the Tea Board of India, the designation of Darjeeling Tea can only refer to teas that are cultivated, grown, produced, manufactured and processed in one of the authorized 87 tea gardens: for this reason, the Darjeeling is classified as a PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) product. In fact, the tea cultivated and processed in this area has specific characteristics including an intense fruity aroma and a taste recalling Moscato grapes, chestnuts and almonds.
A refined and aromatic tea, suitable to be combined with the classic English afternoon tea, inspired by the novel “Alice in Wonderland”, with home baked scones, biscuits, muffin and finger sandwiches.
Its particular flavor makes this tea perfect to pair with both spicy and savory dishes.
