A GLASS FOR CASANOVA

Projects by the students of the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice
Caffè Florian, from November 24th till January 8th
The link between contemporary art and Florian has always been inseparable. At the end of the 19th century, in the Senate Room, the mayor and poet Riccardo Selvatico, together with a circle of artists, had the idea of creating the First International Art Exhibition of the City of Venice, later universally known as the Biennale. For this reason, for more than thirty years, the historic coffeehouse in Piazza San Marco has been keeping a privileged relationship with contemporary art in all its expressions, from painting to sculpture, from video art to design, from photography to the millenary art of glass.
For some years there has been a splendid collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, in particular with the design and publishing design course run by Prof. Roberto Zanon. The projects, created by fourteen Italian and foreign students, were carried out in the 2021-2022 academic year and are aimed at the creation of “A glass for Casanova” (made in glass). A video of the projects is on display in the Room of Seasons and some of the prototypes are on show in the Liberty Room.
